Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
In a significant prelude to the upcoming Parliament session, All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders Sudip Banerjee and Derek O'Brien asserted their stance, raising crucial concerns during the all-party meeting in Delhi.
The AITC criticized the Centre for rendering all-party meetings before the Parliament session ineffective, alleging that these gatherings have become a mere formality. They accused the government of attempting to deceive by introducing bills secretly during the last session without prior discussion in the all-party meeting.
AITC strongly advocated against the passage of three major criminal bills scheduled for approval during the upcoming session. They expressed concerns about the potential adverse effects of these bills and urged the government not to bulldoze crucial legislative decisions.
AITC called for a comprehensive discussion on the federal structure, highlighting issues such as pending MNREGA dues, healthcare funding, and perceived interventions in states.
AITC urged the central government to allocate sufficient time for the opposition to raise pertinent issues emphasizing the importance of allowing discussions on pressing matters such as youth unemployment and inflation.
AITC objected to the premature disclosure of reports from parliamentary committees to the media. They cited the recent revelation of the Ethics Committee's report, leading to the suspension of some MPs. AITC insisted that such matters should be discussed in the House before any decisions are made.
While expressing the desire for a functional Parliament AITC demanded a Parliament that holds the government accountable for its actions. Urging the government not to evade discussions, emphasizing the need for parliamentary sessions to be constructive rather than a platform for escape.
